The Summit of the Americas Center (SOAC) was established in 1995 by the Florida State Legislature at the Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) of Florida International University, to monitor the initiatives of the 1994 Miami Summit of the Americas and the subsequent hemispheric Summits. A central element of the SOAC mission is to provide independent analysis of the impact on Florida of trade liberalization, hemispheric integration and globalization. SOAC monitors the changing political, commercial, social and economic trends in Latin America and the Caribbean for their effects on Florida and our nation.
