Improving Tropical Cyclone Forecasting

Allison Wing of FSU has received a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to improve a model of tropical cyclone formation forecasting. The model will focus on radiation, convection, and moisture to determine the likelihood of cyclone formation.

“Understanding how tropical disturbances are represented in global climate models, and whether the models correctly distinguish between those that develop into tropical cyclones and those that do not, is essential for improving model simulation of tropical cyclone frequency,” Wing said.
