Breakthrough Technique Developed to Detect Alzheimer’s

James Arruda of UWF has invented the Flash Visional Evoked Potential Assessment Procedure, which aids in the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. In the procedure, a person is presented with light flashes, which trigger a brain response that is recorded by an EEG test.

"If we can find an inexpensive, readily available and noninvasive method that reliably identifies people with (mild cognitive impairment), then we are going to be getting people assistance or perhaps treatment early on, which at this point is the name of the game for Alzheimer's," Arruda said.
