Marjana Tomic-Canic, a researcher at UM’s Miller School of Medicine, has partnered with the NIH to study the underlying mechanisms of diabetic foot ulcers. This collaboration has the potential to identify new pathways for therapies.

“This is one of the great examples of ‘science without borders,’ in which multiple different Institutes of the NIH and multiple different NIH-funded projects all come together under one mission — to help patients heal,” said Tomic-Canic. This initiative will build on prior research from Tomic-Canics’s lab and help develop therapeutic approaches.
