Nanoparticles Help Deliver HIV/AIDS Drugs to the Brain

Nagesh Kolishetti of FIU is advancing the use of nanoparticles as a way to deliver HIV drugs to the brain and target viral reservoirs. The nanoparticles could introduce a highly effective treatment method for HIV-infected individuals who are addicted to a substance of abuse, as HIV is magnified by recreational drug use.

“We found that this delivery system can reduce HIV/AIDS viral reservoirs in the brain. It can reduce the viral load, the amount of virus present, which normally contributes to neurological problems,” said Kolishetti.
