Researchers at the University of Central Florida have developed an educational training cards about COVID-19 and ways to stay safe from the disease. The deck of 52 cards provides key information including how the disease spreads and CDC-recommended instructions for preventing and transmitting the disease (such as social distancing, hand washing and wearing a mask). The cards can also provide instructions about the proper care and use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Together, the cards encourage users to accurately select the most appropriate preventative measures, recall and apply individual steps in sequential order, increase dexterity and recall speed under simulated stress. They also offer ways to cooperate with others in a team environment and to comprehend and follow verbal instructions from teammates.
Technical Details: Card text is sourced from the following, as listed/cited on the cards: US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UCF, and CNBC (in order of percentage of use). The flexible game framework allows for expansion and rapid changes to serve new audiences and reflect new procedures, treatments and unique situations.
UCF is committed to enabling the broad distribution of products and technologies that may be useful for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and containment of COVID-19 infection and protection of healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. UCF is implementing technology licensing strategies that are consistent with the COVID-19 Technology Access Framework established by Stanford University, Harvard University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the COVID-19 Licensing Guidelines endorsed by the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).
