Researchers at the University of South Florida have developed a technology that consists of a novel material that has the ability to change the way doctors and surgeons treat patients suffering from damage to the Central Nervous System (CNS) or peripheral nervous systems. Our inventors have dis-covered that constructing brain machine interface (BMI) devices out of cubic silicon carbide can yield a much higher activity rate of the device after imple-mentation, as compared to devices constructed out of materials that currently exist.
Current research has demonstrated that BMI devices have the ability to provide exceptional therapy for victims of nerve damage due to trauma or disease. Animals have demonstrated the ability to mentally control robots with their thoughts using the BMI de-vice; humans have shown the ability to control com-puters with their thoughts.
