Mission	The mission of the Institute is to promote and stimulate theoretical, numerical, field and laboratory experimental studies of fluid-dynamic phenomena in the atmosphere, rivers and lakes, ground water, oceans, fluids on other planets, and the fluid portions of the Earth's interior, and to apply this knowledge to problems in the geosciences, including environmental problems. It facilitates the career development of its Associates; enhances the educational experience of students studying in geophysical fluid dynamics and related disciplines principally at the graduate level; and seeks to strengthen the related academic departments and improve the stature of the University as a whole.
