Mission: The Center for the study of Hindu Traditions (ChiTra) provides an interdisciplinary forum to encourage research, teaching, and public understanding of Hindu culture and traditions. It brings diverse fields such as art, architecture, performing arts, healing, the environment, and peace studies under one interdisciplinary research, pedagogical, and service umbrella. CHiTra is a program unit in the College of Arts and Sciences and have academic connections with other colleges, centers, and programs within the University of Florida. CHiTra seeks to accomplish its mission with research support, courses offered regularly through appropriate departments at the University of Florida, lectures, seminars, symposia and conferences, language instruction, art exhibits, as well as music and dance performances. By encouraging interdisciplinary studies and by focusing on transnational religion and culture, the ChiTra contributes towards the internationalization of the campus and the curriculum.
