The Nanoscience Institute for Medical and Engineering Technologies (NIMET) was created at the University of Florida:
To consolidate and focus leading-edge, multidisciplinary research and education at UF in nanoscale science and technology (NS & T).
To provide faculty and students with world-class, centralized facilities, technical support and equipment that are essential for the development of new materials, devices, sensors, and instrumentation in the nanoscale regime. This resulted in construction of the $35 million Nanoscale Research Facility (NRF).
To train students in the use of NS & T techniques and equipment as part of their education, and to prepare them for future careers in nanotechnology.
To create an open research environment; and seed innovative nanotechnologies through education and outreach.
