Professor Gold has over fifteen years of experience in design, teaching and research specializing in the environmental technologies and infrastructure projects responsive to population growth, energy conservation, climate and the character of the Florida landscape. His work has most recently focused on sustainable communities and the critical need of integrating mobility and urban form. He has served as the Director of the School of Architecture at the University of Florida since 2008 and teaches graduate and undergraduate design studios, graduate seminar courses and supervises Master and PhD students focused on issues of urban sustainability. His research-based design efforts—conducted through the Florida Community Design Center since 2005—have been nationally recognized through design awards, publications and invited lectures that draw from a range of project types including commercial, municipal, mobility, environmental and residential. Director Gold is a registered architect in Florida, is NCARB certified, and is a member of the American Institute of Architects.
