Biography
Dr. Davis started the Pediatric Hemophilia Treatment Center at the University of Miami in 1987 and remained the Medical Director until September, 2024. At that time she transitioned to Director Emerita of the Hemophilia Treatment Center. Under her direction, the HTC expanded from 6 patients to a lifespan center, with a focus on education and outreach to both the medical and lay communities. Dr. Davis has served as Principal Investigator in numerous industry-sponsored and investigator- initaited studies. She has developed several lecture series highlighting the basics of coagulation, challenges faced by women affected by a bleeding disorder, current approaches to the management of the hemophilias, von Willebrand disease, and rare bleeding disorders. She instituted a girls clinic at the University in conjunction with adolescent GYN, targeting girls with heavy menstrual bleeding and iron deficiency anemia. She has created a bilingual educational series for families living with a bleeding disorders, and is integrally involved with several patient advocacy groups within the bleeding disorders community. Dr. Davis has mentored numerous trainees, several of whom have gone on to become nationally and internationally recognized experts in the field of hemostasis. While remaining as voluntary faculty at UM, Dr. Davis continues to provide education and program development for health care providers and community groups. She is developing an educational bilingual children’s cartoon booklet focusing on hemophilia carrier females. She has partnered with the UM Public School Health Initiative, to raise awareness of bleeding disorders in women and girls.
