Biography
Dr. David Berlan is an associate professor at the Askew School. He teaches in the areas of nonprofit management and public and nonprofit financial management. His research examines the role of competing ideas in the change and evolution of nonprofit organizations and the networks in which they participate. He prioritizes exploring understudied areas of nonprofit management, engaging deeply with the practice, and identifying relevance of each study. Prior research crosses multiple nonprofit sub-sectors including human services, health, associations, emergency management, and human rights. Dr. Berlan is deeply engaged in service to the community and nonprofit sector, focusing this work on helping organizations build capacity. Prior to joining academia, he has substantial experience in the nonprofit sector.
