Biography
Dr. Wagner received his J.D. from the University of Florida and worked as an attorney and member of the Florida Bar in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He left the full-time practice of law and returned to the University of Florida to earn an M.A. and PhD in political science. He is the Department Chair in Political Science at FAU and was awarded the LLS Distinguished Professorship in Current Affairs twice. His research area is technology and politics, both in the United States and abroad. He has co-authored two books and many research articles in this area.
His work has been published in leading journals and law reviews including Political Behavior, Online Information Review, Journal of Information, Technology and Politics, American Review of Politics, Willamette Law Review, The Journal of Legislative Studies, and Politics and Policy. Dr. Wagner has presented at national conferences including the American Political Science Association and the Midwest Political Science Association. He has worked on some of the leading research on the effects of technology on politics with studies ranging from American elections to the Arab Spring and East Asia. He has published a book with Rowman and Littlefield Press entitled Rebooting American Politics: The Internet Revolution. His latest book, Tweeting to Power: The Social Media Revolution in American Politics, was published by Oxford University Press.
Dr. Wagner has lectured extensively on technology and politics. He has completed a TEDX talk on the topic and has been cited in many leading newspapers, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, New York Newsday, Dallas Morning News and Miami Herald. He has been featured on national television shows, including MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports and NBC’s “The Today Show.” Currently, he writes the weekly syndicated “Civics Project” column for Gannet Newspapers.
