Biography
Carolyn Buchanan, M.A., CCC-SLP, ATP is a licensed speech-language pathologist and certified assistive technology professional. She serves as the Regional Coordinator for the Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology (FAAST) Atlantic Region Demonstration Center and is an Associate Instructor in the University of Central Florida School of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Buchanan’s clinical expertise is in assessment and intervention involving augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and assistive technology (AT) to improve quality of life for individuals across the lifespan. She has extensive experience navigating AT funding mechanisms and presents in local, national, and international conferences on an array of AT related topics. Buchanan’s research and curriculum development efforts have been centered on developing courses in assistive technology and creating instructional materials centered on the lived experiences of people who use AT. This work is funded by the VentureWell and WITH Foundations. Her collaborations with industry partners, such as those in the AARP AgeTech Collaborative and the Remarkable accelerator program, have generated mutually beneficial partnerships between pre-service providers and innovators in the healthcare technology space.
