This holography-based visualization platform provides users with a physically responsive, 3D rendering of an architectural space from a building information model (BIM), improving collaborative knowledge sharing and coordination among construction project team members. The BIMs are imported via an app into gaming software to create digital holographic representations of buildings or other architectural structures.
Researchers at the University of Florida have created a holographic model visualization system that enables 3D holographic manipulation of a BIM design. Technology
A software package imports building information modeling files from their native development environment. The holographic model visualization software uses application programming interfaces (API) to extract the visual and informational properties of the physical model. The software uses data elements classifications from the model to allow for manipulation of its materials, visibility, and component groups upon holographic projection. Once the software completely processes the model, the system constructs a three-dimensional holographic rendering, which a group of users may surround from various view angles and physically manipulate to enhance visualization of the design project. The system can produce holographic representations using either a fixed unit or mobile projector, providing flexibility for both stationary and active collaborative environments.
