Key Points
- Unique pattern design (of active material) in fabrication of carbon fiber-based composite enables high energy storage and mechanical strength
- Can directly replace many existing structural components of electric vehicles, commercial jets, military tanks, CubeSats (NASA) and other vehicles
Abstract
The University of Central Florida invention is a carbon fiber energy storage system for electric vehicles. The storage devices have an alternating location pattern arrangement of cathode/anode mats and glass/Kevlar mats. This design improves the shear and impact strength of the energy storage devices.
Benefit
- A machine’s external body could be made with such a composite
- Stored energy can be used to either run the machine or some essential components
Market Application
- Electric vehicle manufacturers
- Aircraft industries and wearable device industries
