Abstract
The University of Central Florida invention is an ultrasound-responsive nanobubble for small-interfering RNA (siRNA) encapsulation and targeted delivery for osteoporosis treatment. The bone-specific nanobubble system delivers dual osteoporosis therapy by 1) siRNA knockdown of osteoporosis-related genes and 2) noninvasive stimulation of osteogenesis by image-guided pulse-focused ultrasound. The nanobubble is functionalized with alendronate for bone targeting and delivers Cathepsin K siRNA to increase bone formation while reducing bone resorption.
