Abstract
Medical
professionals need an effective tool to determine patients’ compliance with
their medication schedule. Mobile phones coupled with certain devices can
assist doctors and patients in this regard. FIU inventors
have designed a device that can track the number of doses of a medicine that a
patient takes and register the time, date, and location at which the medication
is taken. The device contains a pill dispenser cap, many insulating layers,
near field communication tag, and a pill dispenser. Using Near Field
Communication (NFC) and a mobile device with an app, the information from the
pill dispenser can be sent to the patient’s medical professional to demonstrate
that the patient is following a particular medication schedule. The pill bottle
can also alert (visual and audio) the patient when it is time to take a certain
medication and keep signaling until the patient opens and seals the integrated
pill bottle.
Benefit
Real-time reports to remotely monitor patient medication schedule compliance Reminds the patient to take medication at a predefined scheduleEasy-to-use graphic user interface to help patients with timely medication
Market Application
