In one embodiment, an electrochromic device includes a single unitary active layer including a dye having a nitrogen group and a conducting polymer having a nitrogen group, wherein the active layer has a first color in an oxidized state and a second color in a reduced state, and wherein the electrochromic device comprises no other active layer.Our researcher has fabricated active one layer based EC device between the two conducting FTO coated glass plates, and designed a mechanism for coloration and decoloration of colored based EC device. This can widen the application of the EC device due to availability of color contrast between two colored states. Such enhancement will greatly improve the response time and lifespan of the device, therefore creating a bigger market for EC devices.
