Competitive Advantages:
Standalone device, Higher data rate, Low cost.
Systems or methods for losslessly compressing data received from sensors, such as photon counters, are disclosed. An integer representation of a sensor reading is received from a sensor. The integer representation is combined with additional integer representations from each of a plurality of additional sensors into a single integer value. The single integer value is then stored as an element of an integer array that represents a predefined sample interval.Researchers at USF have created a novel technique for faster memory efficient data acquisition of diffuse correlation spectroscopy. A standalone low-cost computer, along with timers and counters, has been implemented in this setup. This method combines photon-counting operations from many channels into a single stream, thus making DCS blood flow monitors smaller, faster and cheaper. The invention facilitates the construction of large scale DCS arrays that can measure blood flow at data rates up to hundred frames per second. DCS also finds application in the detection of brain tumors and helps to quantify the blood flow in skeletal muscle.
