Abstract
The University of Central Florida invention provides a temporary and removable shelf that both disabled and non-disabled people can install to temporarily place their belongings while in the bathroom stall. The invention can be adapted for use in other areas such as shower stalls, dressing rooms, office cubicles, and any other area where two “walls” abut together to form a corner arrangement.
Contemporary restroom stalls fail to provide any convenient means for a person to hang or place articles. If a hook on the back of the door does exist, there are often multiple other articles or items that a person needs to set down while in the stall that cannot be accommodated by the hook. Additionally, the hook is often out of the reach of those who have physical limitations. While many stalls may provide handicap accessibility, particularly in reference to a shower, sinks, and toilets, there is often no usable space for a disabled individual to place their belongings while in the stall. The UCF invention offers a solution, providing a sanitary shelf for belongings and increasing accessibility to those with physical limitations. The invention also complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
