The Tampa Robert Noyce Master Teacher Fellows (MTFs) provides stipends to effective mathematics and science teachers who will engage in an extended teacher development program to become effective teacher leaders. Twenty highly effective mathematics and science teachers were recruited and selected for participation in this program. The goal is to prepare these individuals to assume leadership roles (a) within their schools and school district so that they can effectively mentor and support beginning and veteran inservice teachers and (b) as part of the USF teacher education programs so that they can support prospective mathematics and science teachers. The goal of the program evaluation is to provide formative and summative information to determine the extent to which the program meets its objectives and to determine the extent to which participants develop as leaders. Our goal is to engage in research above and beyond program evaluation in order to examine nature of the Noyce MTF program and the extent to which the program contributes to development of participants as teacher leaders, examine factors that influence the development of MTFs as teacher leaders, and document the evolution of MTFs as they become effective teacher leaders.
