Economic Challenges and Opportunities in the Inter-American Seas | |
Audience: | Adults |
Description: | The Inter-American Seas offer many economic opportunities but also present challenges. Coastal development, fisheries, petroleum extraction, tourism and transportation are both enabled and threatened by intensifying usage of the Inter-American Seas: the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, and the southeast U.S. Continental Shelf. Recognizing and responding to our physical and social connectivity will be crucial. The long-term economic prospects of the region depend on the health of its natural resources, which bind the U.S. with its Latin American and Caribbean neighbors. Coastal and marine management policies must be designed in coordination with neighbors. |
