Biography

Dean DeBolt, is University Librarian/University Archivist (Professor) for the University Archives and West Florida History Center at the John C. Pace Library, University of West Florida, Pensacola. The two million-item collection includes rare books, manuscripts, diaries, photographs, newspapers, family and business papers, and other materials concerning the people and history of the West Florida and the Gulf Coast (1420-2015). Dean is also a Chautauqua Historian, specializing on the history of the Florida Chautauqua (1885-1920, DeFuniak Springs), as well as the American Chautauqua movement, and has spoken and taught at the New York Chautauqua, the Lakeside Chautauqua (Ohio), the Monteagle Assembly (Tennessee), and the Andrews Valley Experience (NC). His writings on the Florida Chautuauqua have appeared in the magazine of the Florida Humanities Council and he has served as a Humanities Scholar, lecturing on the Chautauqua movement at libraries and organizations throughout Florida. Dean has an M.A. in History from the University of Illinois (Springfield), a M.L.S. from the University of Illinois (Urbana), and archives and preservation training from Ohio State University and the Ohio Historical Society.
