Low-gravity Simulator Aids Space Research

Wei Guo of FSU has developed a low-gravity simulator that will help researchers meet the challenge of studying space environments. The simulator is magnetic levitation-based and can create an area of low gravity with a volume 1,000 times larger than existing simulators.

“Low gravity has a profound effect on the behaviors of biological systems and also affects many physical processes from the dynamics and heat transfer of fluids to the growth and self-organization of materials. However, spaceflights experiments are often limited…Therefore, developing ground-based low-gravity simulators is important,” said Guo.
