Using Brain Simulation to Manage Pain

Hyochol Ahn has established the Brain Science and Symptom Management Center at FSU, an institute for interdisciplinary research that will use computer technology and brain simulation to help patients manage their symptoms and pain. The BSSMC is unique for its multidisciplinary research including data science, mental health, nursing, neuroscience, and engineering.

"The intended outcome of the center's research will operate as a substance-abuse intervention that is non-addictive, non-invasive, non-painful electrical brain stimulation therapy. It focuses on measuring brain function, identifying the neurological source of pain and using electricity to stimulate, or massage, it away," said Ahn.
