FAU Researcher Lands Naval Contract to Develop Bioluminescent Sensor

Michael Twardowski, researcher at FAU’s Harbor Branch, has landed a $11 million contract with the U.S. Office of Naval Research to support development of a sensor for studying light emissions from luminescent marine organisms.

No current measurement system has the ability to detect the full light emission of marine organisms. “We are not only developing a next generation ‘gold standard’ sensor that will be compact and versatile in deployment but continuing a legacy of research in oceanic bioluminescence and its role in ocean ecology,” said Twardowski.
