Lab Works to Identify Cyber Threats as They Emerge

Most cybersecurity organizations focus on post-attack remedies. However, USF’s Sarasota Cybersecurity combines analysis of huge volumes of data with theories of human behavior to forecast threats before they materialize, thus preventing or limiting victimization.

Looking into the future, we can expect cybercrime to keep happening and changing shape,” says researcher Gita Javidi. “Realistically, hackers will get smarter and more targeted.” The lab uses advanced technology, including chatbots that engage the hacker community directly, as well as neural networks and artificial intelligence tools, to better understand the current threat landscape.
