Opening Doors to High-Tech Careers for People with Disabilities

Ayse Torres of FAU’s College of Education and Stella Batalama and Javad Hashemi of the College of Engineering and Computer Science lead a project designed to help individuals with disabilities acquire skills needed for entry into high-quality technology sectors. The program will offer career counseling, work-readiness skills training, and customized-training leading to a certificate in cybersecurity, cloud computing solutions, and computer-aided design and 3D printing.

The fully online training programs will offer flexible, self-paced options with integrated assistive technologies and accessibility features. The goal is to recruit 240 youth and adults with disabilities to participate. Half will receive paid internships in leading tech companies in order to obtain real-world, hands-on experience.
