UNF's Gibson Develops Dolphin Catalog and Sighting Database

Quincy Gibson of UNF has developed a long-term photographic catalog and sighting history database of individual dolphins. The data has allowed Gibson to identify critical habitat areas, determine seasonal movement patterns, and calculate life-history parameters for dolphins In Jacksonville’s estuarine waters.

The permit for the UNF Dolphin Research Program has been renewed for another five years. With the renewed permit, Gibson will continue a 10-year photo identification study that focuses on the biology, ecology, health, social structure, and behavior of bottlenose dolphins in the waters of Northeast Florida.
