To aid the increasing number of Florida communities have become hot spots for three invasive termite species, a UF/IFAS team has created an online termite distribution map that displays which species have been detected in a given neighborhood. They update the map regularly as they receive species samples from property owners and pest control operators.

“All three invasive termite species present serious risks of structural damage over time, but not all communities are equally affected,” says scientist Thomas Chouvenc. “It is crucial for homeowners to understand their local risk and take preventive measures.” Each termite species requires a different approach to manage, so accurate identification is essential before applying any treatment.
