Center Will Focus on Hypertension and Kidney Disease Research

USF has launched a new Hypertension and Kidney Research Center to support research into high blood pressure, a major risk factor for stroke, coronary heart disease, and renal failure. The center will integrate expertise in cardiology, nephrology, genomics, and public health.

Jessica Dominguez Rieg leads one project, which aims to increase interest and opportunities for pre-clinical medical students in nephrology, which has a shortage of physicians. The program will provide hands-on research education in renal physiology over the summer and pair students with faculty mentors to engage directly in an immersive kidney research project.
