Brain Disorder Link Identified

Wen Li of FSU has identified a link between two key parts in the brain that play a role in conditions such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, and depression. Li found that stimulating the attention system in the brain also enhanced the efficiency of a key part of the brain’s organization, the default mode network.

“Our results showed that transcranial stimulation of alpha oscillations can help regulate and enhance the efficiency of the default mode network. The fact that this stimulation upregulates the default mode network highlight an effective, non-invasive therapy to normalize the functioning of the network in neuropsychiatric disorders,” said Li.
