Z. Hugh Fan of UF has developed a game-changing diagnostic test that is able to quickly differentiate COVID-19 and influenza. The test can detect the two viruses in 50 minutes or less without the use of bulky laboratory equipment or expensive power supply.
“In patient-care terms, this innovative sample-to-answer platform is an important upgrade from the existing RT-PCR standard on several levels,” Fan said. “With regard to diagnosis, the turnaround time is less than an hour at the testing spot compared to one to two days from an offsite testing lab.”
