This initiative focuses on relevant social, agricultural, scientific, clinical and educational issues related to diseases potentially devastating to the health of Floridians and the State economy, as well as the health and economy of rest of the country. This institute develops and delivers appropriate informatics, diagnostics, treatments and surveillance for the prediction, prevention, detection and management of microbial pathogen-associated diseases of humans, animals and plants.

Currently, the institute is a primary resource for all things related to COVID-19.
